Harry Bains was first elected as the MLA for Surrey-Newton in May 2005 and was re-elected in 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2020. He served as British Columbia's Minister of Labour from 2017 to 2024 and previously held roles as the Official Opposition critic for Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, Transportation and Labour. Harry has been a long-time and active member of the Surrey community.
He served on the Kwantlen University College Board of Governors from 1993 to 1999, serving as vice-chair for three years. He has also volunteered with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Harry also has an extensive background in community service and labour leadership, having served as an elected officer of Steelworkers-IWA Canada Local 2171 for over 15 years.
