North Coast Transmission Line jobs and business opportunities

A group of workers in orange high-visibility coveralls sit in a room during a meeting or training session.

Job and business opportunities

We're creating employment opportunities in Northern B.C. and for British Columbians.

Construction of the North Coast Transmission Line (NCTL) Phases 1 and 2 is expected to create approximately 1,400 to 1,600 jobs during peak construction. The project will also open up business opportunities for Northern B.C. and the rest of the province.

Work with our project team

While contractors hire most workers on the project, you can find roles with our NCTL project team in Prince George and Vancouver. We post opportunities online at BC Hydro Careers, Employment Connections, and WorkBC.

We regularly hire for roles such as:

  • Project managers
  • Construction managers
  • Engineers

Work for NCTL contractors

Most roles are hired through contractors building the project. Apply directly to contractors who have been awarded project work. We don't accept resumes on their behalf.

We'll share contractor companies and their contact information as they become available.

Interested in a career in the trades? Visit Industry Training Authority or WorkBC for jobs or training information.

Procurement opportunities

You can find procurement opportunities for the NCTL on BC Bid. A high-level overview of key upcoming procurements is below. These dates are subject to change.

ScopeTimeline

North Coast Transmission Line construction

We've issued a request for supplier qualifications (RFSQ) to prequalify line contractors. This includes an early contractor involvement phase. Contractors will collaborate on route refinement, access, schedule, Indigenous participation, foundations, and environmental and safety considerations.

Request for proposals: April 29, 2026*

Award contract:

Phase 1 (Spring/Summer 2027)

Phase 2 (Summer 2027 – Winter 2028)

*The RFP will result in multiple contracts, which qualified suppliers may bid on separately over time.

Right-of-way clearing and access construction

Work involves clearing vegetation along the transmission line right-of-way, including danger trees and waste wood management. It also includes:

  • Roads and trails: Building and upgrading existing access roads, trails, and work pads

  • Restoration: Restoring access after construction

  • Support: Drainage structures and potential Professional of Record duties

  • Site preparation: Stump removal, grading, backfill installation, and erosion control

  • Infrastructure: Bridge and culvert supply, fencing, and quarry development.

We're pre-qualifying First Nation suppliers and non-First Nation designated business suppliers for master service agreements (MSA) to provide clearing and access services. MSAs will run for five years, with an option to extend for another five years.
