Our Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) for potential new electrical capacity has concluded and the response was strong — a clear signal that Canadian developers are ready to help power B.C.'s growing economy.
We received 106 submissions, representing 19 gigawatts of potential capacity and 36,800 gigawatt hours of annual energy. The submissions include a diverse mix of technologies/resources, including geothermal, biomass and hydro storage, among others.
The RFEOI was an information-gathering exercise that confirmed strong market interest and will help guide future procurement strategies.

About the RFEOI for Capacity
The 2025 Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) for Capacity sought information from organizations capable of delivering reliable and cost-effective capacity and/or baseload energy resources to meet B.C.'s growing power demands. We issued this RFEOI for Capacity on June 4, 2025 and accepted bids until September 8, 2025.
Responses were gathered to inform the development of long-term procurement strategies to help build a more diverse and resilient power system for British Columbians.
Participation in this RFEOI did not preclude respondents from taking part in future competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, including the 2025 Call for Power. This RFEOI and any subsequent RFP processes are independent of the other and participation in one process will not be participation in the other process.

A Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) is a preliminary procurement step that allows us to gather information from potential suppliers. This process assesses the market's capabilities, interest, and technology solutions aligned with specific project needs, informing our long-term procurement strategies. Participation in this RFEOI is non-binding, and expressions of interest submitted do not create any commitment or obligation for either BC Hydro or respondents.
For this RFEOI, BC Hydro was interested in Capacity and/or Baseload Energy Resources (with the exception of nuclear resources) in B.C. that could connect to our integrated system. For more information, see section 2.0 of the RFEOI.
Questions and answers
The 2025 RFEOI for Capacity Question Period concluded on August 8. All responses to questions received during this period are now posted online.
