Free energy-saving products and support for Indigenous communities

The Partners in Indigenous Energy Efficiency & Resilience program is designed for Indigenous Governing Bodies that are coordinating home energy efficiency upgrades in multiple homes for their community members.

Indigenous Governing Bodies can access free energy-saving products along with salary funding and training to undertake basic energy-efficiency upgrades in community homes.

The offer

This offer includes:

  • Free energy-saving products [PDF, 61 KB].
  • Salary funding to support product installation by community members or building maintenance staff ($150 per participating eligible home).
  • Training for community members and staff to install the energy-saving products.

How it works

Indigenous communities who apply for this offer will need to designate a project lead who will work with our team to plan and implement the work in their community. The project lead is responsible for:

  1. Submitting a project application in the CEM Hub with information on the homes included in the project.
  2. Ordering energy saving products using our online storefront.
  3. Hiring community members or identify building maintenance staff (or both) who will participate in program training and complete the work in community homes.
  4. Working with us to schedule and coordinate the logistics of the installer training.
  5. Participating in our project management training module.
  6. Coordinating the program work with their team and homeowners.
  7. Keeping track of home addresses where work is completed and submit the completed workbook in the CEM Hub.

Eligibility

  • Must be connected to a current residential utility service account with BC Hydro or FortisBC and heated primarily by electricity.

  • Occupied as a primary residence.

  • Must be located in BC Hydro's service territory [PDF, 177 KB] or FortisBC's service territory.

  • Available to individually metered single-family or secondary suite detached dwellings, mobile homes on a permanent foundation, or side-by-side duplexes/homes or townhouses.

  • Multi-unit residential buildings such as condominiums, high-rises, and apartment buildings. If you're looking to make energy efficiency upgrades to these building types, you may be eligible for our multi-unit residential building offers.

  • Vacation homes or premises that are not year-round primary residences.

  • Garages, workshops, and outbuildings.

  • Newly constructed building or a new addition to an existing building.

Homes in the community that have previously participated in the following programs within the past 10 years aren't eligible to receive this assistance:

  • Energy Conservation Assistance Program (ECAP)

  • Indigenous Communities Conservation Program (ICCP) home energy check-up

How to apply

Applications are submitted online. You'll be asked to log in to the Conservation and Energy Management (CEM) Hub. If you don't have an account with CEM Hub yet, an Energy Coach can register you.

There are no required documents for your initial application. You'll need to know the number of homes eligible to participate in the offer.

Once your project is complete, open your existing application to declare that it's complete and provide your final documents. You'll be asked to log in to CEM Hub first.


 

You'll need to have the following documents ready to upload:

  • Project workbook. Completed workbook including home addresses, upgrades, building type, heating sources, and BC Hydro or FortisBC account numbers for each address.
