Decorative Wrap Grant Program

Grant funding up to $700 per unit is available to municipal governments and First Nations.

Our Decorative Wrap Grant Program provides financial assistance to municipal governments and First Nations looking to improve the visual aesthetics of a neighbourhood by installing decorative wraps on BC Hydro owned pad mounted equipment boxes.

Previous projects have included areas prone to graffiti, as well as high traffic or visible areas such as town centres, parks, commercial districts and civic squares.

Who can apply?

The program is intended to support community based projects, and is open to all municipal governments and First Nations. Grants are to be applied for, and made directly to the municipality, regional district of band office.

Decorative wraps can be added to help:

  • Improve the overall aesthetics of a neighbourhood
  • Promote public art
  • Discourage graffiti

Applicants may complete the project in any way they choose, but must be signatory to and recipient of the grant. Unfortunately we cannot accept applications for projects that:

  • Aren't in our service territory
  • Are already underway
  • Benefit an individual, private organization, or company
  • Are used for commercial purposes

Please refer to the policy and installation requirements [PDF, 930 KB] before applying.

Funding

Eligible applicants can receive grant funding of $350 or $700 per unit, depending on the size of the equipment box to be wrapped. The funding amount will be determined by BC Hydro during the application review.

When to apply

The application closing date for each year is September 30. Funding begins the following April. If applications exceed our budget for the upcoming fiscal year (April to March); projects that aren't approved may submit their application for the following year. Wrap projects must begin within BC Hydro's fiscal year that they are approved for, and be completed within 12 months.

Payments are made after approved units are wrapped, photos submitted and contract requirements* are met.

*Please note that a BC Hydro signed wrap agreement is required before proceeding with a wrap installation. Applicants must adhere to safety regulations and use qualified installers who've had training to work around high voltage equipment. See the required safety training.
