West Shore communities—including Bear Mountain, Colwood, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, and View Royal—are among the fastest‑growing areas on Vancouver Island, and we're making sure our electricity system grows with them. To continue delivering reliable power to homes and businesses, we're planning to build a new substation in the City of Langford.
What we're doing
Colwood Substation currently supplies power to the West Shore communities, including Bear Mountain, Colwood, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, and View Royal. Over the next decade, electricity demand in the area is expected to increase by 26%, and the existing substation could reach full capacity as early as 2030.
To meet this growing demand, we need to build a new outdoor substation to supply power to the area. Once complete, the North Langford Substation will be the second-largest substation in the Capital Regional District, helping power an additional 40,000 to 70,000 homes.
