North Coast Transmission Line Phase 1: Prince George to Glenannan Transmission
We're proposing to build the North Coast Transmission Line: Phase 1 to add new 500 kilovolt (kV) transmission lines and associated infrastructure from Williston Substation near Prince George to Glenannan Substation near Fraser Lake to support economic development and meet increasing demand for clean electricity in the North Coast area.
We’re bringing more clean, reliable electricity to the North Coast to foster economic growth and enable our customers to use clean electricity to power their operations and reduce greenhouse gases.
The current 500 kV transmission infrastructure from Williston Substation near Prince George to Skeena Substation near Terrace is reaching capacity and electricity from the Prince George to Terrace Capacitors project, which is currently under construction, is already fully subscribed. We're proposing to expand our transmission system to meet projected demand.
Through North Coast Transmission Line Phase 1: Prince George to Glenannan Transmission, we're proposing to:
- Build approximately 170 km of new, 500 kV transmission line from Williston Substation to Glenannan Substation.
- Expand Williston Substation to the east.
- Expand Glenannan Substation to the southwest.
- Expand Saranovich Capacitor Station to the west.
- Add fibre optic cables on new or existing transmission structures.
North Coast Transmission Line Phase 2: Glenannan to Terrace Transmission, covers the area from Glenannan Substation to Skeena Substation.
We’re also proposing upgrades to the existing 500 kV lines from Williston Substation to Skeena Substation as well as new transmission infrastructure north of Terrace and in Prince Rupert. We’re continuing discussion with current and potential customers to identify whether additional infrastructure will be required south or west of Terrace.

In 2023 we identified a proposed route corridor for Phase 1 that included options along two parts of the route as shown in the figure below.

Since then, we’ve evaluated the options by considering a number of factors as well as input from First Nations and stakeholders. We presented the southern route option as the leading route (i.e. the route for further study) for the west end at the June 2025 open houses and have now identified the route travelling directly west from Williston Substation (Option 3) as the leading route at the east end..

We look forward to discussing our work with you.
Engagement with our Indigenous partners is also underway, and this aligns with our commitment to co-design the environmental review and explore Indigenous co-ownership of the North Coast Transmission Line, as well other means of Indigenous participation.
As planning for the proposed projects progresses, we'll hold more open houses and other events or activities to enable us to discuss our plans with you.
Feel free to contact us at any time.
