Willoughby duct bank extension

The Langley/Surrey region is one of Canada’s fastest-growing areas. To support this growth, we’re expanding our distribution system by building new duct banks in the Willoughby area. Duct banks hold distribution cables underground to carry power from substations to homes and businesses.

McLellan Substation is currently being upgraded to increase capacity. The new duct banks will bring power from McLellan Substation to Willoughby.

We’re planning to build new duct banks along sections of 196 Street, 72 Avenue, and 202A Street.

We’ll also build duct banks near Willoughby Town Centre, including sections of 205 and 206 Streets.

In addition, our work will include cable placement between McLellan Substation and the Willoughby area.

The Langley/Surrey region is one of the fastest-growing areas in the country.

To meet the region’s increasing electricity needs, we’re building new duct banks to carry power underground from McLellan Substation to the Willoughby area.

Our work mainly takes place in the Willoughby area within the Township of Langley, as shown on the map above.

This includes duct bank construction along:

  • 196 Street between 64 and 68 Avenues
  • 72 Avenue between 196 and 202A Streets
  • 202A Street between 72 and 80 Avenues
  • Sections of 205 and 206 Streets near Willoughby Town Centre

We’ll complete construction of the underground duct bank block-by-block.

We’ll also place cables along existing and new duct banks between McLellan Substation and the Willoughby neighbourhood.

Residents will be notified of upcoming impacts in their area as the project progresses.

Duct bank construction and cable placement is expected to begin in fall 2025 and take about a year and a half to complete.
