Power Smart 2.0 plan
Global energy efficiency leadership
Since 1989, our Power Smart program has transformed how British Columbians use electricity in their homes and businesses. By encouraging small, practical actions – like turning off lights, adjusting thermostats, upgrading to energy-efficient appliances, and making simple home improvements – these efforts have added up over time.
Together, they've become one of our greatest energy resources and have made British Columbians global leaders in energy efficiency. Since 2008, they've helped cut demand by more than 7,500 gigawatt hours per year, which is equivalent to the energy used by over 750,000 homes.
Our plan for a more affordable and resilient energy future
As demand for electricity grows, the smartest path forward isn’t just building more – it’s working alongside customers to reduce and manage their energy use, helping them to save money and electricity.
By reducing overall demand, we can ease pressure on the system and avoid or delay the need for costly new infrastructure, helping keep rates more affordable for everyone.
Our Power Smart 2.0 plan [PDF, 992 KB], released in May 2026 is our largest-ever investment in energy efficiency and demand response.
We're investing over $1 billion over three years in new offers, rebates and rewards to help homes and businesses across B.C. reduce and shift energy use and lower costs. Upcoming highlights include smart thermostat offers, enhanced rewards, instant savings and improved digital tools to help our customers manage their energy use more easily.
The plan is expected to deliver 2,200 gigawatt hours of annual energy savings – enough to power 220,000 homes – and 800 megawatts of capacity savings by fiscal 2030, and save or defer more than $2 billion in generation, transmission and distribution costs.
