Outcome of the Process
On August 4, 2011, BC Hydro selected four projects from two proponents for the award of four Electricity Purchase Agreements ("EPAs"). They represent approximately 754 GWh per year of contractually firm electricity, enough to meet the annual needs of about 70,000 homes, and to be in-service by November 1, 2016. These bioenergy projects are designed to produce electricity using sawmill and manufacturing debris, roadside debris, logging slash, sort yard debris and biomass derived from standing timber. The projects represent capital spending of more than $300 million, creating approximately 1,500 person years of employment.
Please see the report on the Bioenergy Phase 2 Call RFP process [PDF, 1.3 MB] for a comprehensive summary of the call.
