Express study

A fast and efficient pathway to energy-saving projects

An express study can help you identify and quantify energy-saving opportunities at your facility and move more quickly towards project implementation, without the need for a lengthy audit or feasibility study.

Express studies cover five energy opportunity types:

  • Lighting: Evaluate building and space lighting upgrades and controls.1
  • Mechanical: Explore high-efficiency building HVAC replacement opportunities.
  • Solar generation: Assess your facility's potential to generate solar energy to power your facility and sell back excess energy to BC Hydro.
  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): Assess how battery storage can help reduce your demand charges and improve energy resiliency.
  • Demand Response Opportunity Assessment (DROA): Identify opportunities to earn rewards by reducing or shifting electricity use during peak periods.

1 Horticulture lighting opportunities are excluded from this offer.

The offer

Get up to $2,500 per energy opportunity type for an express study at your site. An energy expert will conduct the study by entering key variables into a workbook of pre-built calculators that estimate energy and demand savings. The completed workbook will provide you with results needed to move forward with incentive applications.

While not every facility will be a candidate for all energy opportunities, facilities that qualify for all five can receive a combined total of up to $12,500 in funding.

How it works

  1. Your Key Account Manager (KAM) or Regional Energy Manager (REM) will help determine your eligibility, define opportunities, and if necessary, set up a pre-proposal meeting.
  2. Work with an energy expert (a consultant or equipment vendor from the Alliance of Energy Professionals) to complete the workbook proposal tab and submit it to your KAM or REM. Need help finding an expert? Request a referral.
  3. Your energy expert will complete each workbook opportunity tab and determine the estimated energy savings and cost outputs of your project.
  4. Submit the workbook completed by your energy expert to your KAM or REM.
  5. We'll then process your study funding payment.
  6. If you move forward with your project, you can use your completed workbook to apply for funding.
