Are you eligible for a program-enabled savings bonus?

If you're subscribed to Current, our quarterly email newsletter for our industrial and large commercial customers, then you'll be aware of all the incentives we offer for a wide range of energy-saving projects and upgrades.

But what if you implement energy-saving measures without applying for BC Hydro funding? There can be all kinds of reasons for this: maybe you didn't have time to wait for the incentive process, the project was too small, or you didn't feel the eligible incentive amount was worth applying for. Depending on when you completed the project(s) and how much energy you saved, you may be eligible for a program-enabled savings bonus.

What are program-enabled savings?

Program-enabled savings usually come from projects that fall into two categories:

• Hard-wired: These can include retrofits, plant additions, or other projects that save energy.
• Operational and maintenance: These can include non-routine maintenance interventions, operational changes, or behavioural programs, such as compressed air leak management, equipment maintenance or optimization, equipment shutdown/anti-idling, air/oil filter maintenance.

Program-enabled savings are savings you make without direct capital incentives but with support from BC Hydro via:

• A BC Hydro-funded energy manager
• Energy scans
• Integrated energy audits
• Feasibility studies

Bonus deadline now extended into 2026

If you're a commercial or large industrial customer with program-enabled savings, we'd love to hear about them, as they give us a better understanding of the amount of energy savings we're helping to create across the province. And right now, we're currently offering a bonus for eligible program-enabled claims. As an added bonus, we've just extended the submission deadline to February 12, 2026.

Eligibility

Your key account manager (KAM) can provide the full technical guidelines, but overall, to be eligible, your organization must have a BC Hydro-funded energy manager and your program-enabled claim must:

• Be based on a proven technology
• Be listed in the latest BC Hydro Persistence standard
• Be implemented within the 18-month period before the submission date
• Meet our minimum energy savings thresholds of 25,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year for commercial customers, or 250,000 kWh per year for industrial customers and/or 25 kilowatts (kW) of demand.

In addition to this, your program-enabled claim must reference at least one of the following program enablers:

• BC Hydro-funded energy manager
• BC Hydro-funded integrated energy audit
• BC Hydro-funded feasibility study
• CleanBC funded study

Submitting your program-enabled savings claim is a breeze. All you need is:

• A signed customer declaration form
• Supporting information based on energy thresholds
• A sustainment plan if required
