Reasons for gender compensation discrepancy within affiliations and BC Hydro include:
IBEW: Significantly smaller proportion of females to males (65 versus 1,843) with females tending to occupy roles attracting lower wage rates (e.g. Apprentices, Storekeepers and Drivers) and males occupying the higher paid, journeyperson trades roles (e.g. Power Line Technicians, Electricians).
COPE: Higher proportion of males in higher level roles. Average job grade for males is 9.7 versus 8.4 for females.
M&P: Higher proportion of males in higher level roles, notably in Engineering and Operations Management. Average salary grade for males is 44.0 versus 43.1 for females.
