KAMLOOPS: BC Hydro is opening a new electric vehicle (EV) fast-charge site in Kamloops.
The charging site is in the Kamloops Superstore parking lot at 910 Columbia Street. It has four 180-kilowatt chargers, which can add up to 180-kilometres of driving to an average EV in about 10 minutes. The new charging site has capacity for eight EVs to charge at the same time.
Through power-sharing technology, each unit can serve two vehicles at once by splitting output. For example, a 180-kilowatt charger can supply two vehicles with 90-kilowatts each. This allows up to eight EVs to use these chargers at once. The chargers are equipped with CCS, CHAdeMO and NACS connectors to accommodate a wide range of EVs.
BC Hydro has an existing EV fast-charging site in Kamloops with one charger at the Tournament Capital Centre at 910 McGill Road.
