ESQUIMALT: BC Hydro is opening its first electric vehicle (EV) fast-charge site in Esquimalt.
The charging site is in the parking lot of the Archie Browning Sports Centre at 1151 Esquimalt Road. It has three 180-kilowatt chargers, which can add up to 180-kilometres of driving to an average EV in about 10 minutes. The new charging site has capacity for six EVs to charge at the same time.
Through power-sharing technology, each unit can serve two vehicles at once by splitting output. For example, a 180-kilowatt charger can supply two vehicles with 90-kilowatts each. This allows up to six EVs to use these three chargers at once. The chargers are equipped with CCS, CHAdeMO and NACS connectors to accommodate a wide range of EVs.
