BC Hydro to restore power to most Westside Road residents

Diesel generators set up to provide temporary power during Westside Road wildfire near Kelowna
Diesel generators set up by BC Hydro to provide temporary power to the majority of homes who had been without electricity due to a wildfire near Kelowna.

Wildfire update: Continuous power to be available to residents in area near Kelowna

Update: 10:45 a.m., Friday, July 24

BC Hydro customers who have been without electricity since Monday due to the Westside Road wildfire can expect to have their power restored by 1 p.m. today, thanks to temporary diesel generating units that BC Hydro crews have been integrating into the system since Thursday.

To allow the integration to be completed, customers will experience a full power outage starting at 10 a.m.

The generating units will provide continuous power to all customers that have been receiving power on a rotational basis and to the La Casa subdivision. About 100 customers directly in the fire zone will remain without power until BC Hydro is able to repair our equipment in the area impacted by the fire.

BC Hydro continues to ask all impacted customers to minimize their power usage until the wildfire has been contained and we are able to fully repair our system. Please plug in and turn on only what is necessary.
