Power to be restored by 6 p.m. in Aiyansh and Stewart

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – Power is expected to be restored by 6 p.m. tonight to approximately 1600 customers in communities served by BC Hydro’s Skeena-Aiyansh transmission line. This includes Aiyansh, Stewart and other smaller communities in the area.

A tree falling on the 138 kilovolt transmission line brought down two transmission towers yesterday. The towers are located approximately 14 kilometres north of Terrace, BC.

Two new wooden transmission towers are being erected and the transmission line restrung. The line will be energized later this afternoon. Power line technicians are on standby to get power back as quickly and safely as possible to all customers.

For safety reasons, the transmission line was immediately de-energized yesterday. All measures to ensure safety and environmental due diligence are being followed. There are no safety risks to the public.

BC Hydro is communicating with affected communities, First Nations and other customers impacted by the outage.

BC Hydro appreciates everyone’s patience as we work to restore power.
