Dine and save during Power Smart Month

BC Hydro is partnering with community partners for the fourth annual Candlelight Conservation Dinner on October 25. More than 90 restaurants throughout B.C. are dimming their lights to raise awareness of energy conservation.
Participating restaurants are offering exclusive discounts and special offers for one night only. Offers range from a free appetizer to two-for-one entrées.
Every year during October, Power Smart Month, BC Hydro shows British Columbians how easy it is to make smart energy use choices and save money on monthly electricity bills. BC Hydro provides increased rebates and incentives to help encourage energy conservation throughout the year.
Rich Coleman, Minister of Energy and Mines:
“The Candlelight Conservation Dinner gives British Columbians an opportunity to see how simple it is to make small changes, like turning down the lights, to conserve power. Since 2008 BC Hydro has saved 3,400 gigawatt hours a year in electricity through conservation — enough to power 309,000 B.C. homes.”
Lisa Coltart, Executive Director of Power Smart and Customer Care, BC Hydro:
“The annual Candlelight Conservation Dinner for Power Smart Month is my favourite event to show how easy it is to be smart with power. Making simple behaviours, like turning off your lights when not in use, a habit can add up to significant energy savings for your home, community and the province.”

  • More than 90 restaurants in 10 communities across the province are offering discounts and dimming their lights to raise awareness of energy conservation in October.
