Support for BC Hydro's Energy Plans
Vision Critical Inc. of Vancouver was commissioned by BC Hydro to conduct a poll of 1,000 British Columbians in BC Hydro’s service area between February 14 to 18. The following are highlights of this poll.
Almost three quarters (72%) of British Columbians indicate they are confident or very confident that BC Hydro is making responsible choices for the long term future of British Columbia.
- Confidence is highest in the Lower Mainland (76%) and Southern Interior (76%).
Nearly nine in ten (87%) British Columbians support the idea of a long term plan for electricity in the province.
Slightly more than eight in ten (81%) British Columbians support investing, upgrading and expanding British Columbia’s electrical system (generation, transmission and distribution).
- Support is strongest among males (88%), high income earners (88%) and those age 35 years or higher (85%).
When asked to choose which is the most important consideration BC should take into account when considering investment into the electrical system:
- Generating clean energy/preventing climate change…38%
- Ensuring reliable power throughout the province…29%
- Keeping the price of electricity low…28%
- Creating jobs…4%
- Don’t need to invest into the electricity system…1%
