Prince George woman wins BC Hydro Team Power Smart Photo Contest

Prince George, B.C. – Christmas is coming early this year for Prince George resident Tammy Gock. Gock has won BC Hydro’s 2011 Team Power Smart Photo Contest for her creative depiction of a power-saving tip: “Turn off all the lights.”

Gock’s winning photograph “Turn off all the lights” shows a little girl reaching to turn out the lights with Gock’s vintage chandelier in the foreground. “My mom always taught us to turn lights off when we left a room and so I am teaching my children to do the same,” explained Gock as her inspiration for the photograph.

The theme of BC Hydro’s third annual Team Power Smart Photo Contest, sponsored by London Drugs, was: “This is what I do to be smart with my power.” To view Gock’s award-winning photograph and the nine finalists, visit www.londondrugs.com/teampowersmart

Gock’s photograph was picked from a short-list of 10 finalists. As the winner, Gock will receive a Nikon DSLR camera, valued at approximately $1400; a $100 gift card to London Drugs photo lab; a copy of Earthopoly, a board game that features B.C. landmarks and teaches energy-efficient tips; and her photo will be displayed in Victoria’s Royal BC Museum from December 15th to February 19th as part of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibit. The other nine finalists in the contest will also have their photographs displayed at the Royal BC Museum.

480 photos were received this year. Submissions were judged on originality, relevance to theme, composition, lighting and technical qualities. The judging panel included Team Power Smart Leader, NBA superstar Steve Nash, and representatives from the Royal British Columbia Museum, London Drugs, and BC Hydro. The public also helped choose their favorite from the short-list of 10 finalists.

All photos were submitted by Team Power Smart members. If you commit to reducing your electricity use by 10 per cent you can enjoy exclusive Team Power Smart offers and rewards plus learn easy to implement conservation tips. There are currently over 330,000 Team Power Smart members.
