Candlelight Conservation Dinner: smart romantic dinner

Book a smart, romantic dinner out in B.C. on October 27

Vancouver, BC – Candlelight will set the mood for romance and conservation on October 27 during the Candlelight Conservation Dinner as more than 120 restaurants in British Columbia turn off the lights and invite customers to dine exclusively by candlelight to raise awareness of energy efficiency and conservation.

To sweeten the deal and serve up a few more savings, most restaurants will be offering special discounts to diners like two-for-one entrees, or complimentary appetizers or desserts.

Quotes:

Hon. Rich Coleman, Minister of Energy and Mines:
“Our province is growing, so too is the need for electricity. The least expensive power is the power we don’t have to produce, namely power saved through conservation. We need British Columbians to make conserving power a way of life and of doing business to help keep our electricity rates among the lowest in North America.”

Lisa Coltart, Executive Director of Power Smart and Customer Care, BC Hydro
“What a delicious way to save energy. Our Candlelight Conservation Dinner, now in its third year, has been a huge success and is part of BC Hydro’s Power Smart Month campaign. The tasty event is designed to show how simple behaviours, like turning off the lights, can save energy.”

Facts:

  • Power Smart Month teaches people how easy it is to conserve energy. Even small actions – like turning off unneeded lights – can make a difference. BC Hydro saves over 2,300 gigawatt hours per year of electricity through conservation programs – the equivalent of powering more than 210,000 homes annually.
  • Each year BC Hydro hosts Power Smart Month in October to increase awareness about the benefits and ease of using energy efficiently at a time when electricity consumption begins to increase for the winter. During October, BC Hydro provides special Power Smart offers including increased rebates and incentives for the purchase of energy efficient products.
