Note: Transmission is not part of the data prior to fiscal 2011.
This performance measure includes all known injuries and fatalities to the public involving BC Hydro's assets, as reported by BC Hydro employees in BC Hydro's Incident Management System (IMS).
In our efforts to minimize the risk of injury to the public, BC Hydro implements public safety awareness programming regarding electrical and water hazards, with a focus on higher risk groups. BC Hydro conducts analysis to identify groups at high risk (e.g. trades workers, first responders, and youth) in order to direct public safety programming.
The table has been updated in fiscal 2011 to reflect only injuries and fatalities involving our assets. In all previous years of GRI reporting, BC Hydro had included the total number of incidents, including all near miss incidents that had the potential for injury.
In July 2010, the British Columbia Transmission Corporation was amalgamated with BC Hydro. Injuries or fatalities involving transmission have been included since July 2010.
