This indicator provides a measure of the extent to which BC Hydro and other utilities reduce consumption and purchases of new insulating oil by reusing existing inventories of insulating oil that may have otherwise been disposed of as waste, burned as fuel, or recycled rather than reused.
The fiscal 2011 insulating oil reused percentage increase was due to the fact that less oil was sent from the Oil Management Department as waste in fiscal 2011 in comparison to fiscal 2010 (20,860 litres in fiscal 2011 compared to 87,295 litres in fiscal 2010). This data does not take into account any insulating oil that may have been sent directly from a BC Hydro facility to a management facility other than the Oil Management Department of BC Hydro.
