Three deadlines coming up, and why they matter

Working on an energy efficiency project due this fiscal year? Depending on which incentive is involved, you’ll need to be done by March 14 or March 31.

As BC Hydro's fiscal year nears, three dates to be aware of

It's that time of year again when projects for our fiscal year need to be completed by March. Which day in March depends on the incentives program you're dealing with.

For business energy saving incentives (BESI) projects, you need to declare online that projects are complete by March 31, 2024.

"Sometimes, you need a nudge to get those projects done," says Tanya Perewernycky, program manager with our Alliance of Energy Professionals. "And sometimes, you may not be able to get them done in time. If you're in that position, you need to let us know if you need an extension. And if you've installed a product that's not on the approved list, give us a heads up. It could still qualify and get added to the list."

And in case you missed it, please check and double-check that you've submitted all project documentation. Need help? Call our business help desk at 1 866 522 4713.

For SIP projects, the deadline is March 14

Self-serve incentive program (SIP) projects must be declared complete by the end of the day on March 14, 2024. With larger commercial sites now eligible for the program, some customers might think that they can complete their projects at the end of the month. But that's not the case, as there's a system freeze from March 15 to 31.

Work with your customers to ensure successful project completion. If you need a project extended, let us know and we can apply an extension to the project.

And now, a tip to ensure you get everything done in time.

Make sure invoices are complete and clear

The final stage of an incentive application, after project declaration, is an invoice review. Your invoice will need to include the application number, plus the model numbers of the products installed. Check that these numbers match what was indicated in the customer's declaration, and check you've included the quantities of each product, as well as the cost to install.

If the information is unclear on the invoices submitted, follow-up is required. And that causes a delay in the customer receiving their incentive.
