BC Hydro makes rate filing with Commission

VANCOUVER — BC Hydro today filed a Revenue Requirement Rate application with the BC Utilities Commission for the 2015 and 2016 fiscal years.

The application provides details for the first two years of the Province's 10-year plan, and follows the directions issued by government on Thursday to allow for the implementation of the plan.

As part of the application, BC Hydro is also filing a Regulatory Accounts Report with the Commission. The report outlines how BC Hydro is managing its regulatory accounts over the next 10 years.

As announced in November, a rate increase of nine per cent, in accordance with the 10-year plan, will take effect on April 1, 2014. For the average residential customer, this will be an increase of about $8 per month. An increase of six per cent will take effect on April 1, 2015, representing an increase of $5.82 per month.

BC Hydro and the Province have worked to keep electricity rates as low as possible while allowing BC Hydro to make investments in the aging electricity system to support the power needs of B.C.’s growing population and economy.

Even with these increases, BC Hydro will continue to have among the lowest rates in North America.
