Open a new business account

If your business is located within BC Hydro’s service area [PDF, 193 KB], start service at your business and open a new account online by submitting a request below.

You'll need the following information to open a new account:

  • Business name and number
  • Address
  • Contact phone number
  • Landlord's name and phone number (if you're renting)

If you want to open multiple accounts at once for different service locations, use this form instead

Fees and documentation

  • We charge a standard fee of $12.40 + GST to set up service at a new location. The fee will appear on your first bill.
  • A security deposit may be required for new accounts. If required, an invoice will be sent and this deposit will be due within 10 days of the mailing date.
  • For some new accounts, we may require a rental or purchase agreement for proof of tenancy or ownership. If proof is required, we'll contact you.

Business information

If you're a sole proprietor or general partnership, you should use the residential move-in/move-out form within MyHydro. If you don’t already have a MyHydro account you will need to sign up for one.

e.g. ACME Anvils. If the company name is not registered in B.C., the application must be processed under a personal name.

If we're unable to verify an existing company name, we will conduct a legal name search.

Billing preferences


In order to manage your BC Hydro account online, you will need to provide BC Hydro with some contact information (e.g. your name and your business email address, contact telephone number; details that may otherwise be located on a business card) along with the BC Hydro business account number. We consider the information associated with your business account to be non-personal information, regardless of business type (including limited companies, sole proprietorships and corporations).

BC Hydro offers these online facilities in furtherance of its mandate under the Hydro and Power Authority Act, the Clean Energy Act, and the BC Hydro Electric Tariff regulated by the BC Utilities Commission under the Utilities Commission Act.
