BC Hydro makes progress restoring service in the Interior
MERRITT: BC Hydro crews restored service to more than 80 customers in the Interior this weekend who were impacted by a severe storm on November 14 and 15 that brought catastrophic damage to parts of the province. Work will continue in the weeks ahead to restore power to other impacted customers in the area.
There is extensive damage to the Highway 8 corridor between Merritt and Spences Bridge. Service was restored on Friday to 10 customers in Nooaitch along Shackelly Road, and about 30 customers now have power between Spius Creek and Dot Ranch. BC Hydro crews are working to replace equipment and restore service to additional customers in the area this week. The storm destroyed 87 power poles and 14 transformers along Highway 8.
Service was restored to 42 customers in Merritt over the weekend. All remaining customers need to have a qualified electrical contractor inspect their electrical equipment and appliances before BC Hydro can reconnect their home.
BC Hydro is working to restore service to customers between Merritt and Brookmere and should have some repairs completed by the end of the week. Restoration along Highway 5 is still likely several weeks away as the road repairs are taking considerable time and need to be completed first.
