Free water-saving kits help Sidney and North Saanich residents save money

SIDNEY – The average B.C. household uses nearly $250 worth of electricity every year to keep the hot water flowing. This month, BC Hydro is offering Sidney and North Saanich residents free water-saving kits that will help them save on electricity costs and reduce the amount of wasted water.

The water-saving kits include a kitchen aerator, a bathroom aerator and a low-flow showerhead.

Switching to efficient aerators and showerheads can help reduce the amount of water used without reducing water pressure. In many cases, showers can be the largest single contributor to overall hot water use in a home, accounting for 15 per cent of total household energy use.

A high-efficiency aerator on a kitchen sink can save $28 a year in hot water costs.

To receive a free water-saving kit, Sidney and North Saanich residents can visit BC Hydro representatives at several events this July and also drop off old aerators and showerheads for free recycling at the locations and times below:
