Message from Jessica McDonald, President and CEO, BC Hydro

Yesterday there were some serious allegations made about BC Hydro’s disclosure of information to the BC Utilities Commission, our independent regulator, in regulatory hearings back in 2008. The allegations call into question the level of disclosure that was provided to the Commission about BC Hydro’s Information Technology plans at that time.

The complaint itself centres around a regulatory process that occurred seven years ago, and was sent to us with a large volume of material attached. We are reviewing this carefully and until we have had an opportunity to read through the material and review our own records, we will not be able to respond specifically to any allegations other than to state that BC Hydro fully respects the role of the Commission and has always believed itself to be in full compliance with its processes and procedures. We will fully participate in any process established by the Commission to consider this complaint and we will also work swiftly in an effort to make public our response as soon as possible.

What I can say is that in a business where we are faced with many different choices, and where many different opinions come into play, it is critical that the way we approach these decisions and assess every option is guided by the right principles. One of BC Hydro’s fundamental values is acting with integrity and hand in hand with this comes operating in an open and transparent way in everything that we do. Our customers expect this and only the highest standard will do.

Thank you.

Jessica
