Gigantic BC Hydro transformers on the move

A 96-wheeled truck transports a five-metre high, 106-tonne transformer to BC Hydro’s Mica Dam. The transformer, a steel tank containing copper windings and an electrical core, is one of four that travelled across the country on CP Rail from Quebec to Revelstoke. The final leg is by truck from Revelstoke to Mica. The transformers will convert the electricity produced by the new generating units being installed at Mica Generating Station to a transmission voltage of 500 kilovolts.
