BC Hydro President and CEO Dave Cobb on workforce reductions
"We need to keep rates low for B.C. families and businesses and that’s why BC Hydro is making changes to become a leaner and more efficient organization with fewer employees, while still maintaining safety as a top priority and continuing to provide reliable power.
We will be making significant changes to how we operate. Although we will try to minimize the impact on employees as much as possible through vacancy management and attrition, regrettably, there will be some layoffs as a result of those changes.”
BACKGROUND:
BC Hydro is reducing its workforce by 300 positions this week as part of an overall workforce reduction that also includes 250 fewer positions already achieved and 150 more reductions still to come in the next two years. In summary, over the next three years, BC Hydro will reduce its staff numbers by about 700 positions.
