John Horgan Dam and Generating Station

John Horgan Dam and Generating Station

The John Horgan Dam and Generating Station is the third dam and hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River in northeast B.C.

The John Horgan Dam and Generating Station provides between 1,100 megawatts (MW) and 1,230 MW of installed capacity and produces about 5,100 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity each year – enough energy to reliably power the equivalent of 500,000 homes per year in B.C.

The John Horgan Dam and Generating Station was previously known as the Site C Clean Energy Project during the construction phase.

Construction started in summer 2015 after receiving environmental approvals from the federal and provincial governments in October 2014. The John Horgan Dam and Generating Station became fully operational on August 8, 2025.

The John Horgan Dam and Generating Station will provide British Columbia with clean, reliable and affordable electricity for more than 100 years.
