BC Hydro at work: Transmission towers put up outside of Merritt

Last weekend, BC Hydro raised the first steel transmission tower outside of Merritt as part of the Interior to Lower Mainland Transmission project. The project includes construction of more than 600 steel transmission towers with an average height of 42.5 metres. If the towers were laid end-to-end the total length (25,500 metres) would be equal to 418 hockey rinks.

The project involves building a new 500-kilovolt, 247-kilometre transmission line from Merritt to Coquitlam that will improve power delivery to homes and businesses in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.
