BC Hydro at work: Replacing aging power poles

Last Friday, BC Hydro crews replaced a power pole on Gillies Bay Road in Texada Island. Over time, wooden poles weaken due to weather conditions, insects, birds and wildlife.

As a result, BC Hydro regularly inspects the old poles and invests in new poles to maintain the vast system.  With more than 900,000 distribution poles on the electricity system, BC Hydro will replace more than 8,500 power poles this year through its ongoing maintenance program.
