Workforce diversity reporting

We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of our province because it helps us innovate, make good decisions, and serve our customers better.

Workforce diversity won’t be achieved through a target or quota; it’s an outcome of fair and equitable processes and opportunity. Our goal is to continue to be an employer of choice for job seekers with diverse backgrounds, skills, experience and abilities who are excited about powering a sustainable and prosperous future for all British Columbians.

Related: Our statement of inclusion and diversity.

One of the ways we’ll understand if our workforce reflects the diversity of our province is by comparing our representation of under-employed groups with their participation in the labour market in the occupations we hire.

  2. We have an Indigenous representation target of 5% by end of F26. It supports efforts to increase the percentage of Indigenous employees at BC Hydro with a focus on growing Indigenous participation in non-trade areas.
  • BC Hydro partners with BC Statistics to collect and host BC Hydro’s diversity data to protect employee privacy. The optional diversity questionnaire is administered by BC Stats at the time of hire. It asks employees whether they identify as members of any of the designated groups including women, visible minorities, Indigenous Peoples, Persons with disabilities and 2SLGBTQIA+. BC Stats provides BC Hydro with quarterly reports comparing the representation of designated groups at BC Hydro with the available BC workforce. BC Stats is the central statistical agency of the Province providing statistical and economic research, information and analysis. Their mandate is to produce high quality data intelligence about British Columbia’s citizens, economy and government.
  • Data is as of March 31st for each fiscal year. Updates are published annually.

Pay transparency reporting

Starting in 2023, we report annually on pay transparency in alignment with the Pay Transparency Act. The report shows pay differences by gender at BC Hydro.

While men and women are paid equally for doing the same jobs at BC Hydro, there’s a pay difference due to fewer women in higher-paying trades and technical jobs. We’re taking action to support and increase the number of women in these roles.

Learn more about the pay difference and the specific actions were taking by reviewing our report.
