We have a long history of contributing to the growth and economic prosperity of the province. At the same time, we recognize our impacts, both past and present, on the communities, Indigenous nations, and environments in which we operate.
Working to reduce these impacts has been a focus of our business for decades and will be critical in ensuring a sustainable province in the future.
Performance updates

Highlights from our Sustainability progress report
Vertical solar panels help power a new chapter at Science World
Maintain the resiliency of our system and enable a sustainable energy future:
A $39-million retrofit project at Science World is expected to result in a 42% reduction in energy consumption and 66.5 fewer tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions annually. It includes upgrades to LED lighting, high-efficiency glazing (windows), air-source heat pumps, electric chillers, three different solar panel arrays on the roof and insulation upgrades in the dome itself.
Saving a rare plant in Nanaimo
Managing the impact of our business on the environment:
Our Nanaimo Environment team worked with an expert botanist to save some critically endangered plants growing in one of our rights of way. The plants beside our access road and transmission structures were carefully dug up, moved to safer locations and replanted. The team relocated 578 individual Bog’s Bird’s-foot Trefoil plants to new locations outside the road footprint, and 81% survived the first growing season.
Our 2025 Call for Power launch
Working toward lasting and meaningful reconciliation:
Our 2025 Call for Power will secure new sources of affordable, clean or renewable electricity that will support British Columbia’s expanding economy, while ensuring that people, businesses and communities across the province have the reliable energy they need to expand, invest and succeed.
As part of this second Call for Power, we’ve issued a request for proposals (RFP) to acquire 5,000 gigawatt hours annually of electricity from large, clean or renewable energy projects in partnership with First Nations and independent power producers. That’s the equivalent of powering 500,000 homes in British Columbia.
Building allyship in the field
Powering the potential of our people:
It’s important that we build a working environment that is supportive and welcoming for all team members. We launched a four-part video series that promotes allyship and fosters respect for all. The series is designed to prompt constructive conversations about allyship, equip managers to facilitate discussions about our culture, and encourage passive allies to take action. By showing what allyship looks like, the videos aim to spark change and empower teams to influence their own culture.
Supporting our most vulnerable customers
Acting in the public interest:
In July 2025, we launched our newly enhanced Energy Conservation Assistance Program (ECAP). The program offers free products and advice to support income-qualified customers, helping them save money, reduce energy use, and enjoy a more comfortable home all year long. It’s available to qualifying low- and moderate-income households in single-family detached homes, townhomes and manufactured homes.
