BC Hydro's operations continue for the repair and stabilization of the transmission lines across the Fraser River near the Port Mann Bridge in Surrey, after a 230-kilovolt transmission tower fell into the river on Monday, July 4 - mostly likely caused by high water flows accelerating erosion.

Photo 1: A view of the 500-kilovolt transmission tower on the south side of the Fraser River that BC Hydro is working to stabilize. The lines it is carrying are de-energized.

Photo 2: A barge on the Fraser River holding the crane that is being used to lay rip rap – loose boulders and rocks – on the river bed to increase stability and prevent additional erosion. By early next week, crews will have placed four barges of riprap. It's precise, time-consuming work and is affected by fluctuating water levels and the tide.

Photo 3: A view of the transmission towers across the Fraser River (on the north side) from the BC Hydro work site. The smaller tower, on the left, is identical to the 230-kilovolt tower that fell into the water on July 4. You can see that it is no longer carrying transmission lines.
