This 70-foot wooden transmission structure was put up on the weekend north of Terrace after a tower replacement operation that required crews and all supplies to be flown in by helicopter.

Transmission line re-energized after BC Hydro replaces toppled tower

Power was restored at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon to about 1,600 customers in Stewart, Meziadin and the Nass Valley, after BC Hydro crews put up a new 70-foot wooden transmission structure to re-energize a transmission line.

Crews worked in challenging winter conditions further complicated because the tower is in mountainous terrain only accessible by helicopter. They also had to blast holes into the rocky mountainside to put the structure in place.

All supplies and personnel needed to be flown into the area using helicopters.

Specialized transmission crews from the Lower Mainland joined local crews in the north last week to begin power restoration after BC Hydro found a 55-foot transmission tower had toppled over and knocked out power.
