BC Hydro Power Smart, together with our municipal customers, have worked to upgrade incandescent traffic signals to more energy-efficient light emitting diode traffic signals. This program is now complete and 63 customers participated, converting 2,984 intersections. In just two years, 98 per cent of traffic light intersections in B.C. were converted to LED technology. This is already saving B.C. municipalities and other eligible organizations over $1.6 million a year in electricity costs alone.

The Traffic Intersections Program is not currently offered. Municipalities and Ministry of Transportation organizations who participated in the program can access the Traffic Signal Load Calculator.
