Medium General Service (MGS) accounts will move to the new MGS Conservation Rate on one of three dates: April 1, 2012, April 1, 2013, or April 1, 2014. Customers will be notified before their accounts move.
The MGS Conservation Rate encourages you to use less electricity than you have in the past. When you use less electricity than your historic average (called your baseline), part of your bill is a credit. When you use more than your baseline, part of your bill is an additional charge.

The starting point of the rate Each month, BC Hydro calculates your baseline: your average energy usage in the same month over the past three years. Your baselines are unique to your account and are updated every year to ensure they keep pace with your organization. |
Part 1: Baseline Charge How you pay for your total energy use is split into two parts. In Part 1, you pay for your baseline amount of energy. You pay one price for 14,800 kWh and a second, lower price for any additional kWh in your baseline. |
Part 2: Credits/Charges In Part 2, you get a credit if you used less energy than your baseline or a charge if you used more. To encourage conservation, a portion of these credits and charges are at a higher price that better reflects the higher cost of new electricity supply. |
