Our mobile site just got an upgrade
Customers using the bchydro.com mobile site will notice a big difference from the site that was active before December, 2010 – especially customers with iPhone, IPod Touch and Android devices.
Navigate to bchydro.com and you'll be directed to our new mobile-friendly site, which features timely, relevant content – including power outages information. Outages options will now include map and list views for outages across B.C., and a new GPS feature that allows those with location-aware devices to to get outages status at their exact location.
Most BlackBerry users will be able to access the new mobile site. But those with older models or unique browser settings have the option of accessing our WAP (text) site via a link at the top of every page on our new mobile site.
The new mobile site also includes enhanced electricity safety and conservation information.
Text-messaging and BC Hydro
BC Hydro continues to develop mobile solutions for customers, including text-messaging services (SMS) that enable Team Power Smart registration and mobile alert subscriptions.
Team Power Smart registration and subscription
Individuals can now join Team Power Smart via text-message on their mobile phones.
By signing up, you can expect periodic messages such as exclusive mobile offers and promotions, conservation tips, event notifications and contest information. Standard message/data rates apply.
To sign up and subscribe to mobile alerts: text "JOIN" to "POWER" (76937).
You will receive a confirmation text message.
Commands include:
STOP: text "STOP" (to POWER) to unsubscribe from mobile alerts
HELP: text "HELP" (to POWER) for contact info
INFO: text "INFO" (to POWER) for more info
You will receive a second message with the option of texting your email address to "POWER" (76937) to receive more web offers and access to online tools.
An email confirmation will be sent to your email inbox. If you have already signed up for Team Power Smart online, you will continue to enjoy the same offers and access to the online suite of interactive tools.
Eligibility: Team Power Smart is only available to residents of B.C. who are at least 19 years old. Account holders with at least one year of consumption history can earn a $75 reward for saving 10% over 12 months.

What is SMS?
SMS stands for Short Message Service, commonly know to consumers as text messaging. The protocol is designed to send text messages to and from mobile phones. The messages may be up to 136 characters in length including spaces. Almost 100% of today's phones can send and receive text messages.
What is a short code?
Similar to a telephone number, short codes are special 5 or 6 digit codes used to route text messages from mobile phones to interactive mobile messaging applications, typically in combination with a keyword. They are designed to be shorter to read and easier to remember than normal telephone numbers. BC Hydro's short code is POWER (76937).
What is a keyword?
Used in combination with a short code, a keyword is a word that differentiates a mobile campaign or initiative from others on the same short code. The keyword to sign up and subscribe to Team Power Smart alerts is "JOIN".
How to send a text message to join Team Power Smart
Note: The following steps may differ slightly on various devices. For more information, please refer to the user manual of your mobile device.
- Access the main menu on your mobile phone/device.
- In the main menu, select "Messages".
- In the sub menu, select "Create a New Message".
- Enter the keyword "JOIN" in the message area and the destination number "POWER" (76937 – the numeric equivalent to POWER).
- Select "Send".
