BC Hydro called for 10 to 20 year agreements to supply new, competitively priced electricity from non-utility generation to meet its future load growth.

Background

On-site, customer-based generation has the potential to make use of existing customer-based infrastructure, resulting in low cost electricity and incremental revenue for BC Hydro's customers. The Customer-based Generation (CBG) program, introduced in May 2002, aims to acquire up to 800 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of installed and operating customer-based generation by September 30, 2006.

RFQ Phase is now complete

For the first phase of the program, the 2002 CBG Request for Qualifications (RFQ), customers were invited to submit a Statement of Qualifications by July 2002. The 2002 CBG RFQ resulted in proposals totalling 980 megawatts of contracted capacity representing about 6,800 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year.

The 2002 Customer-Based Generation Call for Tenders (CFT) was issued on September 6, 2002, to pre-qualified bidders identified through the 2002 CBG RFQ process.

Pre-qualified bidders were eligible to tender a bid by March 14, 2003.

The Call for Tenders process is now complete.
