In 2000/01, BC Hydro invited independent power producers (IPPs) to submit proposals for green energy projects.
As a result, Hydro completed 20-year electricity purchase agreements for 23 projects. Four developers subsequently withdrew projects from the process. Of the remaining 19, 18 are small hydro and one is green landfill gas. These projects will have the combined potential to generate approximately 900 GWh/year. Permitting, financing, construction and, ultimately, facility operation are the IPPs' responsibility.
We have posted a list of IPPs with whom EPAs have been completed. Please note that, at the request of the proponents, details of three projects have not been provided at this time.
