Activity Update

Scoping sessions for the Resource Options Update were held on July 19 and July 30. One-on-one discussions and group meetings were conducted for specific resource streams (from August to November). The results of the update were provided by resource type at a session held on December 4, 2007. For more information, please see the Resource Options Update page.

Intervenor engagement activities are underway. A preliminary session was held on November 14 to provide an overview of the 2008 LTAP process and components, as well as to discuss the scope of intervenor workshops. On March 5, the first workshop was held to review inputs to the LTAP analysis. On April 25, the second workshop was held to review the remaining inputs, and to discuss the risk assessment and mitigation approach. Materials resulting from these activities will be posted on the Intervenor Workshops page as they become available.

What is the 2008 LTAP?

The development of the 2008 LTAP is currently underway. The purpose of the 2008 LTAP is to update the 2006 LTAP, which was filed as a part of the 2006 Integrated Electricity Plan (IEP) on March 29, 2006. BC Hydro anticipates completing the 2008 LTAP in the spring of 2008.

In the relatively short time since the 2006 IEP was filed, there have been a number of developments that have the ability to affect BC Hydro’s electricity planning landscape. These include:

Where possible and relevant, the 2008 LTAP will address the different issues or implement the actions outlined in these documents.

Background

What is an LTAP? An LTAP is BC Hydro’s action plan to cost-effectively meet growing customer electricity requirements. An LTAP translates the IEP analysis and acquisition strategy into a series of actions that sets the course for the first ten years of the 20-year IEP horizon.

What is the LTAP planning cycle? BC Hydro plans to develop and file an IEP on a four year cycle, which includes the development and filing of an LTAP. At the mid-point of this four year cycle, BC Hydro plans to provide an update to the LTAP.

What is happening now? Currently, BC Hydro’s 2006 LTAP is in place and translates the 2006 IEP analysis and acquisition strategy into a series of actions that sets the course for the first ten years (F2006 to F2015) of the 20-year 2006 IEP horizon. The 2008 LTAP update work is currently underway and is anticipated to be completed in the spring of 2008.
