David Cobb, who was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BC Hydro on May 25, 2010,  resigned from BC Hydro effective November 30, 2011, to pursue a senior opportunity in the private sector.

The Board of Directors has appointed Charles Reid as acting President & CEO, effective December 1, 2011.

Role and responsibilities

The CEO is the senior management officer of BC Hydro. The CEO leads the executive management team, and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the corporation. Together with the Board Chair, the CEO acts as a primary spokesperson for BC Hydro, ensuring effective relations with the government of B.C., the public and other stakeholders.

Although not a board member, the CEO has access to the same information as any director, except when relating to the CEO’s performance, as appropriate.

Performance evaluation

The board’s Human Resources and Safety Committee is responsible for the CEO’s performance evaluation process.
