What you learn and experience

BC Hydro's Engineers-in-Training (EITs) program provides engineering graduates with valuable work experience that leads to a Professional Engineering Designation and a rewarding engineering career with us.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on important projects that will serve the population of B.C. for generations. And you'll work alongside bright, knowledgeable, and highly skilled people.

Engineers-in-Training are selected for their technical capability, their leadership potential, their alignment with our core values, their attitude, and their ability to become productive members of BC Hydro. Our EIT program has a proven track record of successfully providing participants with the depth and breadth of engineering experience necessary to qualify for their P.Eng. license with EGBC.

Qualifications: what you bring

To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil)
  • Less than two years of Engineering work-related experience in Canada (not including co-op experience)
  • Must be eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training with the Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (EGBC)

Program details and future job prospects

The two-year EIT program is designed to provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge, and practical experience to help you achieve your Professional Engineering designation and prepare you for a successful engineering career at BC Hydro.

We aim to maintain our status as a top employer and continue to attract and retain our skilled employees through career progression and leadership development. We will help you develop and grow through on-the-job experiences, relationship building, and training.

Where you train and work

As an EIT, you will be hired into a permanent position and location. However, you will complete up to three rotations throughout the province to ensure you gain the maximum training and experience.

For example, your permanent position may be in the Lower Mainland and you may complete three 6-month long rotations in Revelstoke, Hudson's Hope and on Vancouver Island.

Pay and benefits

You will learn and work in a safe and healthy environment supported by a competitive benefit package that includes a minimum of three weeks vacation, health and vision care, dental benefits, disability income, and flex credits that can be used in a variety of ways such as paid flex days.
