Message from BC Hydro Chair

VANCOUVER – BC Hydro Chair Dan Doyle released the following statement today:

After nearly six years as president and chief executive officer of BC Hydro, one of the longest serving presidents and chief executive officers in the company's history, Bob Elton will be transitioning to a new role as special advisor to the BC Hydro Board and executive chair of Powertech.

His new role will commence on January 1, 2010.

During his term as chief executive officer, Bob has modelled leadership based on strong values and a commitment to building a safer workplace and a strong and diverse workforce that is ready to meet the needs of customers now and in the future. During his tenure, the company made significant progress towards the provincial goal of achieving self-sufficiency through a combination of growing its world class Power Smart programs; improving the health of B.C.'s heritage electricity assets through substantial capital re-investment; and securing nearly 100 contracts for new clean and renewable power projects across B.C.

The Board of BC Hydro wishes to thank Bob for his dedicated leadership and looks forward to working with him in his new capacity. His knowledge and experience will continue to be an asset to the company in the months ahead.

The Board has initiated a search process for a new chief executive officer and will communicate the result once the process is complete.

Sincerely,
Dan Doyle
