How are rates established?
How rates are established
On behalf of the BC government, the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) is responsible for overseeing BC Hydro's electricity rates and ensuring compliance with government regulations.
The BCUC sets BC Hydro's residential and business rates as published in the official Electric Tariff issued by BC Hydro and approved by the BCUC. Rates are adjusted by the BCUC, so that BC Hydro is able to achieve a targeted rate of return.
BC Hydro's rates reflect the generation, transmission, distribution and customer service costs of providing electricity to our customers.
