Fort St. John design charette
Fort St. John examines future energy options
With the goal of designing a sustainable neighbourhood incorporating educational, commercial and residential uses, Fort St. John decided to hold a design charrette.
The four-day charrette included participation from the business community, neighbouring land owners, city councillors, NGOs and residents.
The charrette's final report includes a chapter on energy options at both the site and building levels. Some of the suggested energy options include:
- Passive design
- Building level heat recovery options
- District energy options
The city now has some well defined energy efficiency ideas and is considering ways to realize the opportunities identified in the charrette.
BC Hydro's role
BC Hydro sponsored an energy component within the charrette, helping infuse energy supply and demand considerations throughout the process.
