If you're in the market for a new appliance, there are probably a lot of features at the top of your list. Maybe the finish needs to match the rest of your kitchen, or maybe you're finally getting a separate freezer to go along with your fridge. If you're planning to purchase a new appliance, don't forget to make energy-efficiency one of the qualities that you look for. An energy-efficient appliance can help you save energy and money on your electricity bill.
Plus, with the Power Smart Appliance Rebate Program, you can access even more savings when you buy a qualifying ENERGY STAR® appliance. Appliances eligible for the rebate program have been selected based on their high ENERGY STAR efficiency standards.
Rebate levels and qualifying models
The Power Smart Appliance Rebate Program is available for three types of major appliances including selected ENERGY STAR models of clothes washers, refrigerators, and all ENERGY STAR freezers. You can receive a mail-in rebate if you purchase an eligible appliance before October 31, 2013.
With the Appliance Rebate Program, you can receive
- $75 on select ENERGY STAR clothes washers
- $50 on select ENERGY STAR refrigerators
- $25 on ENERGY STAR freezers
Make sure you check the Appliance Rebate Product Eligibility Search before you purchase your appliance to find a qualifying model.

Save with an ENERGY STAR dishwasher
Dishwashers can use a lot of energy, which is why when you're purchasing a new dishwasher, it's important to choose an ENERGY STAR-labelled model. Approximately 85 per cent of dishwashers in the market meet the standards of being ENERGY STAR, so you'll have plenty of energy-efficient options to choose from. Although dishwashers aren't eligible for the Appliance Rebate Program, you'll still save by purchasing an ENERGY STAR dishwasher. Your appliance will be at least 25 per cent more energy efficient than the minimum federal standard and will save you up to 20 per cent on your water heating costs.
Receive $100 with Samsung
From June 14 to July 18, purchase a select ENERGY STAR Samsung refrigerator and receive a $100 mail-in rebate.
If you end up purchasing a new ENERGY STAR refrigerator, don't just move the old fridge to your basement or garage as a secondary fridge for drinks. Having a spare fridge could be costing you up to $85 a year to operate. Look into the Refrigerator Buy Back program. All you have to do is set up a pick up time and you’ll receive $30 in return for your secondary working fridge.
